SOCIAL RESPONSIBILTY AS A CONCEPT

Hello my dear readers... Yesterday, I wanted to check out some pr projects prepared for projects competitions for communication when I did not have anything to do at work. :) While checking, I realized most of the projects were about social responsibility and then I decided to write down on my blog here (Cami Kirik Gozluk) what I know about social responsibility. Pardon me if  I make a slip of my tongue :) Let's start...


Note: SRP in some passages will be used as abbreviation of Social Responsibility Projects

Social responsibility is a concept with the idea a profit or non-profit establishment does plan and apply some projects  that is much beneficial for environment because they would like to contribute to the benefits of their society. So, it won't be untrue for us to say social responsibility doesn't have purpose of making profits.

In companies SRP are prepared and planned by the department of public relations/affairs. In SRP, while companies look after benefits of society, they, also, aim to increase the reputation of their company. Therefore, it is quite obvious that the concept is not always used for just 'innocent' purposes. After a company could barely get over a crisis or after a 'doctored' news about name of a brand, it is no matter how well falsification reports the company prepares against. What really works well for a whitewashing is, for sure, SRP.


What's more, social responsibility is a great advertising opportunity for compaies. Although the first purpose is not to advertise, because brand name is remembered together with the name of SRP it will have positive impact on brand awareness.

Apart from what what we have talked about so far, another important factor in social responsibility concept is ethic. The concept ethic is mostly ignored by some 'so called' companies trying hard to plan an SRP . So what is the core of the  ethic issue. Let's put it that way, the purpose of SRP, as stated before, contributing to the solution of some environmental problems. Remember, there is no intention for making economical profit. So, in the context of ethic, a company should not pursue such goal as profit making. Increasing the reputation of a brand or making image restoration for a brand because of a slander the brand name is mentioned ought not be the reason why a company makes SRP. These are quite against the principles of the concept ethic.
